The 13 members of YSB’s Global Advisory Board — three from the U.S., three from Europe, and seven from Asia—met virtually on October 14 to discuss the school’s recent accomplishments, its present status, and to outline directions for its future, especially in entrepreneurship and operations in the COVID-19 era.

Representing YSB at the virtual meeting were Dean Kil-Soo Suh and Associate Dean of Planning Sun Ju Park. Major recent achievements discussed were the school’s second consecutive EQUIS certification, selection of the school for Phase 4 Brain Korea 21, and the creation of the new startup IGLOO space. Other reports covered preventive measures taken against the epidemic and steps taken to continue instruction in the face of the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 virus.

Addressing tasks at hand, the advisors discussed how to revitalize the startup space created on the second floor of the business building, how to foster students' entrepreneurship, and how COVID-19 will affect higher education and globalization in the future. Instead of minimizing the role of the school, the advisors said, YSB should empower prospective entrepreneurs. Moreover, they noted, developing a startup business is not the only way to cultivate entrepreneurship, so it is necessary to nourish students' creativity through various types of industry-academia cooperative programs. The school should move away from the traditional framework of university operations in its efforts to cope with the difficulties posed by the virus, they said. The advisors represented global corporations and nonprofit organizations in diverse fields as well as institutions of higher education.
