Intern (Sustainability Unit Intern)

Location: Incheon, South Korea (ICN), KR

Duration: Full time for 6 months

Starting date17 January 2022

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants currently located in the duty station (South Korea) are only eligible to apply. Nevertheless, GCF still aims to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

Internship Assignment

The Intern will provide operational and administrative support to the Sustainability Unit of the Office of Risk Management and Compliance (ORMC). S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by providing assistance on environmental and social safeguards (ESS), indigenous peoples (IP) issues, sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH) and gender issues.

Under the overall guidance of the Environmental and Social Safeguards, Gender and Indigenous Peoples Manager within the Sustainability Unit, the Intern is expected to:

  • Support the consolidation and migration of a database of project-level information on ESS (including SEAH), IP, and gender, and assist in digitalization;
  • Undertake targeted research to support the ESS (including SEAH), IP and gender due diligence of proposed projects and monitoring of approved projects by the GCF Secretariat;
  • Provide technical and administrative support to activities related to ESS (including SEAH), IP and gender, including support on policy implementation and capacity building, (e.g. support to the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group; ESS standards development, etc.);
  • Provide any other technical and administrative support as may be required by the Unit.

Requirements and qualifications

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from Master’s program related to environmental or social sciences, management or policy, environmental and social management systems, gender studies, safeguards and impacts assessments or related fields;
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental and social management systems, environmental and social impacts assessment, indigenous peoples, gender and climate change, safeguards, knowledge management, and other related fields;
  • Good understanding and experience in operations of international organization is an added advantage;
  • Proficiency in using standard software programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language, in particular French and Spanish, and/or Portuguese is an advantage.
