In order to address national and global-scale problems, we employ a wide range of tools and strategies. The Opportunity
The Philanthropy team at Emerson Collective provides support to nonprofits through grantmaking as well as various programs and is currently recruiting an Analyst to support the Environmental Justice Portfolio. In this role you will help identify potential nonprofit partners, support existing grantee partners, and assist with cultivating and identifying new opportunities to strengthen collaboration. The Analyst will work in the area of Environmental Justice, which broadly includes efforts to support communities impacted by the effects of climate change, especially as it relates to air quality, climate resiliency, energy, food, sanitation, and water. This role will report to the Director, Environmental Justice on the Philanthropy team.

Role and Responsibilities

    • Assist with the grantmaking processes, including conducting research, building meeting prep materials, leading meetings and calls, analyzing documents, and writing documents to be used for grantmaking decisions.
    • Conduct research and landscape analyses to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities in the Environmental Justice ecosystem and stay informed on relevant updates that affect our current and potential partners.
    • Develop and maintain systems for organizing data, materials, and information, as well as conduct data entry and document maintenance.
    • Collaborate with other teams (e.g., communications, events) to ensure we are leveraging their tools and capabilities in support of our partners.
    • Prepare reports, presentations, memos, and other documents for internal and external audiences.
    • Help conceive and support events, convenings, and trainings that enable partners and peers in the field to learn together.
    • Support the Director, Environmental Justice, and the broader philanthropy team as needed, as well as take on special projects as they arise.

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

    • Ideally 2 years of experience at a foundation, nonprofit, corporate social responsibility function, campaign, or other impact-oriented organization(s).
    • Demonstrated passion for creating positive impact in frontline communities and curiosity about a variety of issues, particularly climate change and the environment.
    • Exceptional ability to remain organized, prioritize tasks with contending priority levels, and initiate appropriate follow-up as needed.
    • Superb time management skills and ability to track tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
    • Generous and inventive collaborator, supporting teammates and colleagues as needed.
    • Comfortable taking on new tasks or projects with little direction and adjusting course quickly in response to feedback.
